Discussion Forum: New Categories

Wed Apr 15, 2009, 8:46 PM
I've got a discussion going at [link]

Started off as me suggesting the category "philosophical" be added for non-literature categories. And also as me suggesting that a category for performance art be added.

Most seem to think that performance art is covered by other categories. As when a photograph is taken of an act--it should go under photography. My argument is becoming this: that the spirit (or meaning) of the piece should be a consideration in its placement and not simply the material in which it is made or shown.

Hop over here and discuss. And I could use some help. Most people aren't agreeing with me.

New here, except for lurking. Made this account over a year ago and haven't submitted anything until now.

Interests:

Philosophy (ex. Existentialism, Nietzsche), Art (illustration, animation, performance, improv, etc.), tornados, dreams, cats, slash fiction, walking around at night, working up passion, costuming, doing something surreal in front of people, larping, considering these things:

1. The properties and relationships between the 'archetypes' of the Protector, Creator, Punisher, and Destroyer. (And how they relate to myself and to the debate about what is Good.)

2 What it means to be "real" and how to make the unreal real. (As in how to make a fictional character into a non-fictional person, or how to motivate/inspire people to break out and go do something amazing.)

3. The evolution of consciousness and value in the lifetime of an individual. (As when someone moves from being suicidal to goal-driven, when their perspective dramatically changes, when they start asking a new set of questions about their experiences.)

4. The relationship of the Self with the perceived Adversary (Is the relationship of the Self like slave to demon, or game player to opponent?–one about suffering and stunting, the other about training and improvement.)

My descriptions of my art are part of the art.
